Cheap 2tb Hard Drives

Looking for cheap 2tb hard drives?  How low will you go?  The benchmark for cheap 2tb hard drives seems to be between £100 and £150 – not exactly bargain basement, but then you are looking at something with a memory capacity bigger than God.  Cheap 2tb hard drives coming in below this figure probably aren’t worth buying at all – unless you don’t mind your cheap 2tb hard drives either not working or shaking your PC to pieces as soon as you turn it on.

Probably the prime thing to beware of with cheap 2tb hard drives is their stabilising technology.  Large hard drives (and cheap 2tb hard drives are surely that) have big motors driving big fans that keep them cool.  Cheap 2tb hard drives may not have the stabilising gizmos a lot of mid-priced drives have been given:  which could mean that buying cheap 2tb hard drives makes your PC vibrate like a steam hammer.  Vibrations, obviously, aren’t good for machines that use a magnetic drive to write information onto a spinning disc:  vibrations from cheap 2tb hard drives can cause the data writer in your PC to “jump”, which corrupts the file it is writing.  Too much of that equals auf wiedersehen computer.

Cheap 2tb hard drives aren’t so hot on the energy saving front, either.  You might think that energy saving hard drives are just a sop to the environmentalist mafia.  Cheap 2tb hard drives will show you otherwise when they sap all your system’s power in order to run their fans.  Giant hard drives get hot, quick – hot computer bits go slow and then die.  2tb hard drives, as a result, use a lot of power just staying cold enough to work properly.  Cheap 2tb hard drives, if they’ve skimped on the energy saving tech, overheat and blow up.

So – if buying cheap 2tb hard drives, beware.  Caveat emptor.  Cheap 2tb hard drives might look like a good idea, but when you’re gluing your broken computer back together or putting out the fire in your office, you might be thinking again.
